Peru

The magnificent Came Renaco tree.

As I mentioned, I love going to Peru. The energy there feels so strong, I feel at peace when I am there.  The local people have been so kind and loving toward me, and the beauty of nature is vast and vibrant there.   The Andes, the Amazon rainforest, and the Pacific Ocean – it is a great place to connect to history and nature.

There is a documentary team going to Peru to film (in August of this year), to document the exploitation of the jungle and her Indigenous peoples. This team is working with local organisations FarAmazonia and the Indigenous organization FENAMAD  which represents all of the Indigenous Peoples of Southern Peru.  The program is expected to air in the late Fall in Canada and the USA. This opportunity is to facilitate the gathering of leaders, elders and other activists representing the communities living in the Amazon to voice and share their experiences for the world to hear: the destruction of their environment, the permanent damage to their way of life, loss of their plant medicines, and to voice their opinions on the presence of foreign Oil Companies that now threaten their lands; lands that have been theirs for thousands of years.

My feet, a butterfly, the Amazon.

In order to cover the costs for this gathering, HoopInfinite has been offered the opportunity to help raise modest funds. There are plans to assemble representatives of the 30 Indigenous known communities in to one location. Unfortunately these communities are each located deep in the Amazon and are isolated even from each other. In some cases, in order for them to meet, they must travel 3 days by boat.  Coordinating such a journey requires resources including boat and motor rental as well as fuel, food and lodging.  The money that is raised will allow the Indigenous people an opportunity to be heard.
